Hello, I've been using the iStat Pro widget for the past seven years, since I got my first Mac. Unfortunately, it seems to have been long abandoned by its creator - there has been no update and no support for quite some time. IStat Menus can help control the speed of fans in your Mac. IStat Menus can’t lower fans below the speed the System Management Controller (SMC) would normally use, but it can raise the fan speeds. There are four main modes of fan control in iStat Menus. Let the system control fan speeds.
This guide is about the Monitor System Activity in the Mac OS X Menu Bar for Free with iStat Menu I will try my best so that you understand this guide very well. I hope you all like this guide Monitor System Activity in the Mac OS X Menu Bar for Free with iStat Menu 2.
You can view and monitor virtually all important system functions right from the Mac OS X menu bar using the great iStat Menu utility:
- processor usage
- Memory usage
- Disk capacity
- Disk operation and I / O
- Temperatures of CPU, battery, heat sinks, memory, hard drives, and more
- Network operation and bandwidth usage
- Calendar and time
Everything is really customizable, so you can change the width, colors, and what and how they appear in the menu bar by adjusting the settings in the iStat menu configuration box. For my own use, I show disk IO, CPU performance, and bandwidth usage, but if you want to see everything going on on a Mac, you can do that too.
Here’s a little secret, iStat Menus 2.0 can still be downloaded for free from third parties.
Download free version 2.0 from TuCows (supports Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier)
Update: For clarity, the free version only supports Mac OS X 10.6 or earlier, while iStat Menus 3 offers full Mac OS X 10.7 Lion support and costs $ 1 Both are the same developers, the company just changed its name. Thanks to Valashtar for the report.

Here is the system settings panel:
I much prefer this method to just displaying CPU load in Dock with Activity Monitor. One because it has a smaller footprint, two because it’s easier to spot details at the top of the screen, and three because you can drag menu options down and see even more information about what you’re monitoring.
This is what the bandwidth display looks like when you click a menu bar item, it shows incoming and outgoing data, peak speeds, your IP address, your network location, and you can also access other network utilities from the drop-down menu.
This type of detailed information is available for each aspect of the system that you monitor. Dragging down the CPU menu shows the most important processes, download average, usage time, and more. Disk operation shows a diagram of read and write formats for each drive, etc.
My only complaint is that the Memory Monitor section doesn’t show the use of switching in the menu bar, but given that you can usually feel and see switching (rotating death beach ball), it’s not such a big deal. On the subject of RAM, if you hit virtual memory too often, I recommend checking to see if your Mac needs a RAM upgrade, RAM is so cheap these days and has a big difference in system performance, so it’s hard not to justify a small expense to maximize it.

All in all, this is a great free app that quickly disappears from the web, so if you want to keep an eye on how your Mac handles its resources, grab iStats Menu 2.0 for free before it’s gone.
